Television reality & relationship shows, documentaries, and criminal justice programs are increasingly using polygraph examinations as they are fascinating to the public. Almost without exception, it is always one of either the same two guys shown handling the lie-detection chores-- they seem to be on every channel.
Who are those guys on TV doing the polygraphs?
Handling mostly eastern US productions is Dan Ribacoff; his mostly western US productions counterpart is John Grogan.
These long-time friends are both multi-state polygraph examiners and private investigators. Many recognize Dan from "Tyra Banks', 'Steve Wilkos Show', and many others; you have seen John on 'For The Love of RayJay', 'Tool Academy', and many others.

Larry King polygraph re-creation
Viewers of 'Entertainment Tonight' (CBS) were able to view a re-creation of questions asked during the multiple examinations of Hector Penate, who claimed to have had an affair with Larry King's wife. Like most TV polygraph re-creations, it was not technically correct (attachments, movements, rapid-paced and greatly edited as to allow for minimal TV time alloted), but served its purpose. Additionally, it stimulated calls to polygraph examiners nationwide for relationship matters in the days following its airing! John Grogan, the 'nation's most televised polygraph examiner', handled the chores.

Burger King brought John Grogan, the nation's best-known & most-televised polygraph examiner, across the country for this filmed-live event. Promoted as a tongue-in-cheek 'for entertainment only' situation, producers supplied their own antique polygraph instrument and its operator; Grogan just asked the questions.
A silly, fun time. Yet it increased public-awareness of polygraph and stimulated client calls to examiners during the weeks following the airing.

Virtually all professional examiners quit using the obsolete 'analog' (roll of chart paper with moving pens) polygraph instruments since the first computerized instruments were available in the early 1990s. No more paper tears, ink problems, breakages and other problems! But some film productions find the antique-style equipment to 'look better' on film.
PEOA has members nationwide with working analog instruments available for these projects. Some require that you also 'rent' an examiner too, as some parts are often & easily broken (pens can now cost $200 each), and working with the ink and paper can be a challenge.
